100 years – 1907-2007

Dear Friends,

Thank you all, the family of St John’s spread far and wide, for the wonderful support that has enabled us to refurbish St John’s completely, and equip it for its mission as we go into the second hundred years.

 

Now it is time to celebrate!

As you can see from the accompanying leaflet, the church was actually consecrated on the 2nd of February 1907. We feel that it is important to mark that day, so we will be holding a special service of memories and thanksgiving to commemorate the consecration.

 

However, as, unlike the Victorians, most of you do not ‘winter’ here, we have decided to hold our main celebrations on the weekend of 28th / 29th April 2007. The Bishop will be with us for a marvelous celebration of the Eucharist on the Sunday. 

 

As you can see over that weekend we will also have the opportunity to find out more about the British who came to St Raphaλl; participate in a wonderful concert; and join together for a celebratory lunch. We are giving you the dates in good time so that you can make your plans, and book your plane tickets, well in advance, so that you can be here at St. John’s on this exceptional weekend.

 

We have booked lunch at the Brise de Mer Hotel very near to St John’s. However, it is important to point out, that to organize a lunch for this many people, we have to reserve the hotel by the end of October.

 

If you would like to come, and we really hope that you will, could you please return the booking slip to Anne Eaton by the 31st October. We would be grateful if you could send your cheque for the meal at the same time either in euros or sterling. We need this in order to know how many people to expect as the church has to pay a deposit. If you are really unable to commit yourself right now, but would hope to be able to come, please return the slip indicating this by 31st October. But to make life easier for the organizers we really would appreciate a definite commitment now. Places are limited to the first 100!

 

Nearer the time could you please let us know if you are coming for either of the other celebrations so that we can anticipate numbers for the buffet meals.

 

We hope you will also join in the fun so that all the church family, will be represented on the “Angels of St. John’s” centenary tea towel. Don’t worry if you cannot draw, have a go. You could draw your angel to represent your country ie. A Scottish angel, or a Dutch angel. Or representing your interest ie. Music, etc. and don’t forget to send us your memories and thoughts also by the end of October.
