St John the Evangelist St. Raphael

             1907- 2006

Centenary Appeal  75000 euros.

Only one year to go until we celebrate our centenary.

Thanks to everyone for your generosity and support in

our effort to renovate the church in time to celebrate our

Centenary in 2007. We have, so far, raised 64,000 euros

in the two years, of our three  year appeal.

You will remember the work that was achieved in the first year. The second year has been a year of planning and obtaining permission for our plans. We were thwarted in our original plans, to extend the west end of the church to create new toilets, as we are a listed building. So, we had to think again, and come up with new plans, but work is now moving ahead as we write. Faculties for all the projected work have been obtained from the diocese and things are progressing rapidly.

Work approved and in progress:

·        Creation of a new sacristy underneath the mezzanine thus freeing up the old vestry.

·        Redecorating the old vestry, upgrading the toilet facilities and installing a new fuse board.

·        Transfer of the library to the vestry which will now serve the further purpose of providing a quiet area on a Sunday for the priest to prepare for the service.

·         Use old library area to build a toilet, cloakroom, and meeting room/ refreshment serving area.

·         Renew electrics throughout church, new lighting and wall mounted heaters, third air conditioning unit and sound system.

Final Phase

·        Replace wooden entrance lobby with glass

·        Overhaul, sand and polish wooden floor

·        Re-decorate the interior of the church

Financing the project.

The work approved and in progress comes to a total of 36,400 euros. Last year’s works totalled 39,000, this comes to a grand total of 75,400 the target amount of the appeal.

As you can see above, so far we have raised 64,000 euros. Therefore we are only 11,000 euros short of our target. We thank you all enormously for your generosity so far, and ask you to help us in this final push, by direct giving or organising a fund raising event, to help achieve our target and finish the work approved. The final phase of the work to paint the interior and overhaul and polish the wooden floor will be financed from the general funds. In this way we can enter into the second hundred years of the life of St. John’s with a church building that is in excellent order and ready to face the developing ministry here in the years ahead. Thank you all!
