On Sunday 30th July, Timothy Noon, organist and master of the choristers at St David's Cathedral in Wales, gave an organ recital in aid of the St John's Centenary Fund. As the church does not have a pipe organ it was decided to hold the recital at Holy Trinity Church in Nice and we are grateful to the Revd Canon Ken Letts for his support in this. A coach was organised from St Raphael and 30 church members and friends arrived in Nice in time to have a picnic tea in the lovely garden of Holy Trinity - an oasis in the busy city centre. They were joined by some local people for the recital, and Tim played a selection of modern and traditional organ works, finishing with the popular Widor's Toccata.
Timothy combined the recital with a week's holiday in St Raphael with his family - his 2 children, his mother and stepfather, his mother-in-law and father-in-law, all of whom are singers and who augmented the choir of St John's at the morning service to sing a delightful anthem together.
Unfortunately, due to the lack of support (despite widespread advertising) the event just covered costs, but those who went enjoyed a marvellous musical experience and fellowship together over tea.
