Songs of Praise 2009  Back

Our Harvest celebrations this year began with a cream tea followed by "Songs of "Praise", when members of the congregation could identify a favourite hymn for singing, in return for a donation to our Harvest charity - supporting those who are forced to live in the garbage pit of Cairo.  So many hymns were selected that it was necessary to limit ourselves to the first and last verse only. The afternoon raised €204.

Hymns included:

  • Jerusalem (for Bill)
  • Lord of the Dance (for Ian & Chris)
  • Eternal Ruler (for Roger)
  • Tell out my Soul (for Marie & Ward)
  • My Song is Love (for Caddie & Ian)
  • The Lord Bless You (for Val & Des)

  • Great is thy faithfulness (for Graham & Gillian)
  • Beauty for Brokenness (for Alan & Janice)

Interspersed with the hymns were a number of readings, selected and read by Roger, and including:

  • "Angel Voices"
  • "Ode" - Arthur O'Shaughnessy
  • a poem by Rudyard Kipling
  • "Hymn on the morning of Christ's nativity" by John Milton
  • Psalm 150

After the service, we were treated to a spectacular thunderstorm over the bay and in the hills, as the angels clearly wanted to join in with us!
