Easter 2010  Back

Maundy Thursday We gathered together in Ben and Anne's home for a spiritual evening of hymns, prayers, the breaking of the bread and sharing the wine to remember the last supper that Jesus celebrated with his disciples. We shared the symbolic food of the passover and related it to our Christian faith.

Lamb: The Blood of the lamb saved the first born of each family Jesus the lamb of God gave His blood for us.

Flat bread: Israelites did not have time to wait for their yeast to rise

Jesus gives His body The bread of Life

Bitter herbs: A reminder of the bitterness of slavery in Egypt. The cost of discipleship in Christ

Salt water: The red sea that parted to set them free. Reminds us that Jesus calls us to be the salt of the world.

Charoseth. The mortar that the Hebrews had to mix to make bricks for the Egyptians.

Easter Flowers St John's is blessed with a team of very talented flower arrangers under the leadership of Jane El-Safty. The Easter arrangements this year were stunning and enriched our worship and joy enormously. At the entrance to the church in pots of colourful flowers were the words He Is Risen. A beautiful cross decoratated in greenery and lilies adorned a pillar the altar flowers and pedestal at the entrance and the window decorations were vibrant and colourful all making a wonderful atmosphere for our Easter celebrations. Thank you to all who helped and especially to Jane for masterminding everything.

Easter Lunch After a wonderful celebration of Easter in a packed church as is the tradition at St John's we gathered to share Easter Lunch together. A good time was hd by all and thanks to our cooks for the delicious Easter lamb!
