Gloria on page 3

Refrain:

Glory to God, Glory to God, Glory to God in the highest.

First reading:  Proverbs 8: 32-36

 "Now then, my sons, listen to me;

       blessed are those who keep my ways.

  Listen to my instruction and be wise;

       do not ignore it.

  Blessed is the man who listens to me,

       watching daily at my doors,

       waiting at my doorway.

  For whoever finds me finds life

       and receives favour from the LORD.

  But whoever fails to find me harms himself;

       all who hate me love death."

Gradual Hymn: 215 Hosanna! Hosanna!

Gospel  Reading.  Matthew 11: 25-30

Rest for the Weary

 At that time Jesus said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure.

 "All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.

 "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

Advertising St John’s.  The holiday season is upon us and we need to ensure that holiday makers can find St John’s. Rob has produced some leaflets that can be posted in campsites and hotels or just handed out. Please take some this morning and display them in places where tourists will see them.

Concert. Make a note in your diary of Wednesday 19th August  18.00

Joan Leroy,(piano and organ) Evabritt Grathe, (violin,)  and Lucien Meynard (clarinet) will be performing a concert here at St John’s. We have appreciated their superb concerts before, so do be sure to come and bring friends and visitors.

Planned Giving. St John’s is totally self supporting we receive no financial assistance from outside sources and we are very grateful for your offering on a Sunday. We would like you to consider joining the planned giving scheme. This has considerable tax advantages. If you are a UK tax payer we are able to claim back 28p for every pound you give from the inland revenue. If you are a French taxpayer you can claim back more than 50% of your giving on your tax declaration.

Peter Rowson will be happy to explain how all this works. Please do ask him.

Greeting Cards.

A lovely selection of birthday cards and all occasion cards are available on the drinks table.
