Sunday 23rd August
Our Lord Jesus Christ
himself welcomes you into this
place, where he meets us and feeds us, and then sends us
back out, renewed to witness to His loving wisdom and
power.
May each of us have a
blessed holiday and rest in His presence !
“your faith might not rest on
men's wisdom, but on God's power.”
Opening Hymn: 456 Stand Up Stand Up for Jesus
Gloria on page 3
Refrain:
Glory
to God, Glory to God, Glory to God in the highest.
First reading: 1 Corinthians 2: 1-7
When
I came to you, brothers, I did not come with eloquence or superior wisdom as I
proclaimed to you the testimony about God. For I resolved to
know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.
I came to you in weakness and fear, and with much trembling. My message and my
preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of
the Spirit's power, so that your faith might not rest on men's wisdom, but on
God's power.
We
do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of
this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. No, we speak
of God's secret wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for
our glory before time began.
Gradual Hymn: 570 You

from God. For no one could perform the miraculous signs you are doing if God
were not with him."
In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the
truth, no one can see the

born when he is old?" Nicodemus asked. "Surely he cannot enter a
second time into his mother's womb to be born!"
Jesus answered,

be?" Nicodemus asked.

"For God so loved
the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall
not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world
to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
