All Saints and All Souls

 

 

 To all the saints of God today, grace and peace

 be to you, and all encouragement in the witness,

 example and prayers, of  the saints throughout the centuries.

The First Reading: Ephesians 3: 14-21

 

For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom his whole family[a] in heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.

  Gospel: Matthew 5: 1-12

 

Now when he saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them saying:

 "Blessed are the poor in spirit,

      for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

 Blessed are those who mourn,

      for they will be comforted.

 Blessed are the meek,

      for they will inherit the earth.

 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,

      for they will be filled.

 Blessed are the merciful,

      for they will be shown mercy.

 Blessed are the pure in heart,

      for they will see God.

 Blessed are the peacemakers,

      for they will be called sons of God.

 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,

      for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

 Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

 Father God, the source of all goodness and holiness, we thank you for calling us into fellowship one with another.

We celebrate today all your people, all your saints, both past and present, and we remember before you all whom we have known and loved, and who now live in you.

Inspire and strengthen us to walk with all your saints the path of life and wholeness.  Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen

A Life Worth Living

An exciting follow-up to the Alpha Course, which was

well attended and much appreciated last year,

This is based on the book of Philippians. Each session explores how it is possible to live the Christian life positively, practically and joyfully!

Full time and part time residents are urged to take part here at St John’s. as we here at St John’s try to grow in out Christian faith.

Continuing Tuesday 3rd Nov at St John’s, and Tuesdays thereafter at 12.30 with light bring and share lunch followed by discussion.

 

Sunday Lunch November There will be no Sunday Lunch on the third Sunday in November as we are having a bring and share supper on Sunday 29th November.  See below.

Dates for your diary

November 29th  Advent Sunday  18.00  “Advent Voices”   Readings and hymns for the Advent season. We welcome members from all the other churches along the coast, and there will be a bring and share supper after the service. This will be the main service of the day.

December 6th   “19 Praying Days to Christmas”

The Rev Peter Anderson .will preach at the morning service, and after a bring and share lunch, will lead us in discussion as we prepare ourselves for Christmas.

December 20th    18.00 Festival of Lessons and Carols by candle light.  Followed by mince pies and mulled wine
