Sunday 18th July

Croeso!” Good morning to everyone. It is a special joy to welcome

the choir from Gwyr School, Swansea, lead by their head of music

Mr Berian Lewis. They were with us in July 2005, and were greatly

 appreciated, so it is especially lovely to see and hear them here again, in July 2010!

The Holy Spirit “lives with you

and will be in you”. John 14

Opening  Hymn: 66 Be Thou My Vision

First Reading: Psalm 84

How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord Almighty!

My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord;

my heart and my flesh cry out  for the living God.

Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself,

where she may have her young—  a place near your altar,

O Lord Almighty, my King and my God.

Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising you.

Blessed are those whose strength is in you, who have set their hearts on pilgrimage.

As they pass through the Valley of Baca, they make it a place of springs;

the autumn rains also cover it with pools.

They go from strength to strength, till each appears before God in Zion.

Hear my prayer, O Lord God Almighty; listen to me, O God of Jacob.  Look upon our shield, O God; look with favour on your anointed one.

Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere;

I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God

than dwell in the tents of the wicked.

For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favour and honour;

no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.

O Lord Almighty, blessed is the man who trusts in you.

Hymn:  652 Seek Ye First

Gospel  Reading:  John 14: 15-21

"If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counsellor to be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him."

Planned Giving. St John’s is totally self supporting because we receive no financial assistance from outside sources and are very grateful for your offering on a Sunday.

We would like you to consider joining the planned giving scheme so that the church can count on a regular income and budget more effectively This has considerable tax advantages. If you are a UK tax payer we are able to claim back 28p for every pound you give from the inland  revenue. If you are a French taxpayer you can claim back more than 50% of your giving on your tax declaration.

Peter Rowson will be happy to explain how all this works. Please do ask him.
